Practice makes perfect, as the saying goes, but practice isn’t what I thought when I was younger.
I believed band practice was a series of smoke breaks, interrupted by a song or two. When I was a kid, I always missed baseball and soccer practice because I thought: what’s the point?
Instead, practice is the process. If life is a journey instead of a destination, then practice is the journey.
This dawned after seeing how minor league professionals prepared. And prepared. And prepared. Seeing that preparation made me rethink my priorities. Maybe I should aim towards something that demands such devotion?
As for practice making perfect, don’t be too worried about perfection as a destination. It’s an aim, not an objective.
