OK with KD

I want to play on the best team.   I want to win the championship.  I want to be KD.

Sports are strange.  We get caught in narratives.  This is to help sell the sports, and sell the newspapers/ESPNs making money off the sports.

Often times, the narrative needs to be something that makes easy sense.   The player takes the most money.  The player needs to be loyal.  The player needs to wait to build something and be a part of the process.  Oh, you’re 38 and never won a title?  Now it’s fine to chase a ring.   It’ll make a great story.

Truth is, if I could make great money to join a high quality company, with an outstanding group of co-workers, while  still in my prime, I certainly do it.

In fact, we should all strive to join a championship crew.  If you’re a superstar, why not have a superstar supporting cast?  Time is essential, so why waste your career  and your life waiting for a bumbling GM or manager or ownership to get its act together?  If you’re good enough, you should expect something out of your teammates, leadership, and organization.

KD’s path isn’t phony or cheap.  It’s what I’d do too.
